New Lebanon Presbyterian and Homer Presbyterian Recorded Deaths in Session Minutes, Banks County, Georgia

 

Robert Whorton departed this life June the 10th 1831.

 

Samuel Morgan, a ruling Elder of this church, departed this life the 9th of October 1833 aged 80 years and strong in the faith.

 

Nancy Morgan, a member of New Lebanon Church, departed this life October 26th 1835 aged seventy-eight years and in the triumphs of faith.

 

Elvira Norwood, a member of New Lebanon Church, departed this life August 23rd 1836.

 

Elisabeth Chambers, a member of New Lebanon Church, departed this life on Thursday the 1st of December 1836 aged seventy-six years and for many years a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church and a few minutes before her departure so professed her confidence in the great Jehovah and that dying was but going home to her blessed Jesus.

 

Mary Gill departed this life October 20th 1838 who gave satisfactory testomony of her interest in the atonement of Christ and that laying down this mortal body was but going to enjoy that inheritance prepared for the sanctioned of the Lord.

 

Robert Fleming, a member of this church and for many years a member of the Presbyterian Church, departed this life on Thursday the fifth day of November 1840 who died as he lived strong in the confidence of his redeemer.

 

Jane Kitchens, a member of this church departed this life on Saturday the 21st day of November 1840 who lived many years an exemplary member of the Presbyterian Church.

 

Margaret Turk, a member of this church departed this life November 30th 1842 who gave abundant testimony of the Christian religion which she professed for sixty-six years.

 

Margery McDonald departed this life November 1843 who died as she lived strongly in the faith of her redeemer.

 

Donald McDonald, a ruling Elder of this church departed this life on the 30th day of October 1847. Died in the triumph of a gospel father.

 

Isabel Elisabeth Turk departed this life 19th of July 1852 who gave good evidence of her aceptance in Christ. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. H. Cartledge.

 

Mrs. Synthia Jane Ash departed this life 6th August 1852 who died a most happy and triumphant death.

 

Miss Mary Virginia Headen departed this life 27th December 1852. She gave good evidence of her hope in Christ.

 

Mr. Allen N. Mayes departed this life 16th August 1853. He died in the triumphs of faith in Christ.

 

John Mize departed this life April 4th 1856.

 

William Sanders departed this life Feb. 22, 1857

 

Daniel Morgan, a ruling Elder in the church, departed this life on the 3rd of February 1862 aged 38, 5 months. Disease typhoid Fever. He frequently said to his friends that he was going to leave them. He was going home to his blessed redeemer and exhorted his family and friends to meet him in heaven.

 

Henry Macon Morris, a member of this church, departed this life on ___ day of February 1862.

 

Jane Turk, a member of this church, departed this life on the 15th day of April 1862 aged sixty-nine years, 6 months and 3 days. Fifty-one years a member of the Presbyterian Church.

 

John Calvin McDonald, a member of this church, departed this life. (no dates)

 

Robert A. McDonald, a member of this church, departed this life at a hospital in the service of his country. He was a most exemplary Christian and no doubt died as he has lived. (no dates)

 

John Western Rucker, a member of this church, departed this life at Richmond Va. in the hospital age __years on the __day 1862.

 

Wiley Rucker, a member of this church, departed this life at home on the __day of __1862 aged __ years. Disease Camp Fever he contracted the disease while on a visit to the Army of Virginia to see his son.

 

William L. Johnston, a member of this church, departed this life at the smallpox hospital near Dalton Ga. with small pox on the __day of __ 1863.

 

John H. Morgan, a member of our church, departed this life on Sunday the 13th of August 1865 in the triumphs of the Gospel. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.

 

William Turk, many years a ruling Elder of New Lebanon now Homer Presbyterian Church, departed this life the third of January 1877 in his 83 year.

 

Joshua Owen, A ruling Elder of Homer Presbyterian, departed this life October A.D. 1882. Aged 62 years.

 

Samuel Johnston, an Elder of Homer Presbyterian Church, departed this life March 21 A.D.1883 aged over 90 years.

 

D. A. Meaders, an Elder of the Presbyterian Church, departed this life April the 10th A.D. 1883 aged 56 years.

 

Ira E. Hill was born June 17th 1865 and died the 3rd day of November 1892. His death was caused by a beam falling across his breast at Thompson's gin in Homer.

 

A. C. Moss, an Elder of this church, departed this life the 2nd day of February 1902. He was ordained an Elder of this church the 24 September 1865. The church will miss him.

Session Date November 13, 1892

 

Death of Ira E. Hill;

There is a higher court where our heavenly Father presides in a Celestine City where there is no sickness nor sorrow, pain nor death and there is no parting there. Brother Ira E.Hill has been called to his eternal home there to walk the golden streets of the New Jerusalem. Stricken down so suddenly in the bigger of life and blooming manhood. We as a Session deplore his loss to the Church and Sunday School and the community in which he lived.

That we, the elders of the Homer Presbyterian Church, who were privileged to know and work with him in his Christian endeavors in this church and community, record our appreciation for his useful Christian life...

That we, as Citizens of the United States of America, note with appreciation and gratitude his distinguished record of military service in two World Wars, attaining the rank of Colonel and having been awarded the Legion of Merit, the Order of the British Empire, the Bronze Star, and the Croix de Guerre.

And that as we submit to the will of Almighty God, we record this resolution in our permanent records and extend our deep sympathy to his wife, Mrs. Margaret Marshburn of Homer, Georgia, and his son, the Rev. Robert J. Marshburn of Statesville, North Carolina.
