Alonzo Perry MARTIN, 72, of Banks County, Homer, GA
died September 3, 1982 in Gainesville, GA. Born in Banks County, GA, he was a
son of the late Frank and Lula McDonald Martin. In addition to his parents he
was preceded in death by his wife, Ouver Drake Martin. Survivors include sons,
Willard and Roger Martin; grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Funeral services
were held September 5, 1982 at Homer United Methodist Church by the Revs. Johnny
Ray and Lamar Purcell. Interment was in Homer Presbyterian Church Cemetery. McGahee-Griffin
Funeral Home of Cornelia, GA was in charge of the arrangements.
J. A. MARTIN, died on December 27, 1938. "Jones" Martin
as he was known to his many friends throughout this section, served many years
as Justice of the Peace in Washington district. He was preceded in death by his
wife. Mr. Martin is survived by daughters, Mrs. Jas. Kesler, Mrs. Luther Kesler
and Mrs. Elmer Gulley; sons, Tom, Joe Brown, Albert, Logan and Otho Martin; brothers,
Lee and Van Martin. Funeral services were conducted on December 29, 1938 at Prospect
Church, near his old home, and his remains were interred by the side of his wife.
Revs. C. Freeman and Fletcher Durham conducted the funeral services and services
at the grave were conducted by the order of F. & A. M. which he was a member.
Lillie Bell Ayers MARTIN, 56, of Commerce, GA died
July 27, 1969. Mrs. Martin was born in Banks County, GA on January 28, 1913, a
daughter of the late Bill and Hepsye McDuffie Ayers. In addition to her parents
she was preceded in death by her husband, James Hoyt Martin. Survivors include
daughters, Mrs. Bobby Jean Veal and Mrs. Annie Ruth Jacks; sons, Swain C. and
James Paul Martin; brothers, Otha, Herman and Ron Ayers; sister, Mrs. Parris Short;
grandchildren. Funeral services were held July 29, 1969 at Mt. Pleasant Methodist
Church with the Rev. W. J. Reynolds officiating. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant
Methodist Church Cemetery. Little-Ward Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lola Poole MASON, 80, of Cramerton, NC died January
13, 2002. She was a native of Banks County, GA, daughter of the late John and
Rosa Sellers Poole. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Mason;
sister, Louise Roberts; brother, J. D. Poole and granddaughter, Leslie Covert.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Danny Duggan, Nancy and
Danny Conard, Peggy and David Young; brothers, Edd and Tom Poole; grandchildren,
Faith Lapham, Trent Conard, Carmen Scannell, Michael Young and Brooke Conard.
Funeral services were January 15, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Cramerton,
NC with the Revs. Eugene Johns and Richard Brown officiating. Interment was in
Gaston Memorial Park. Carothers Funeral Home of Belmont, NC was in charge of the
arrangements.
Lillie Mae Simmons MAXWELL, 82, died March 27, 2002.
A native of Banks County, GA, Mrs. Maxwell was the daughter of the late Johnny
C. and Dosha Broom Simmons and was the widow of Logan Maxwell. She was a member
of New Bridge Baptist Church. Survivors include daughters, Clara M. Sellers, Sandra
M. Ferguson, Beatrice M. Humphries, Virginia M. Barnes, Joyce M. Palmer, Janice
M. Erwin and Cathy M. Kimbrell; sons, Dennie, Kenneth and Manson Maxwell; sisters,
Geraldine Marcus, Gertrude Chitwood, Winnie "Pat" York, Ruth Caufman and Betty
Herd; brothers, Floy, Bud and Birch Simmons; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
Services were March 29, 2002 at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Cornelia,
GA, with the Revs. Verner London and Austin Kelley officiating. Interment was
in New Bridge Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. W. A. Jenkins officiating.
Lydia Ann Cash MEEKS, 80, died November 15, 1987 in
Stephens County, GA. Born in Banks County, GA, she was a daughter of the late
Sandy A. and Mary Jane Williams Cash. In addition to her parents she was preceded
in death by her husband, Messer Meeks. Survivors include son, Leon Meeks; daughter,
Mrs. Yvonne Meeks Trotman; sisters, Mrs. Willard (Clifford) Murray, Mrs. Robert
(Priscilla) Smith; grandchildren; great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held
November 16, 1987 at Zebulon Baptist Church by the Revs. J. O. Anderson and Wade
Lord. Interment was in the Zebulon Baptist Church Cemetery. Whitlock Mortuary
was in charge of the arrangements.

Wiley Hudson Meeks, 73, of Alto, husband of Martha Elise Catlett Meeks, died Friday, Feb. 24 (1984) at his home. Born in Banks County, he was a son of the late General Marion and Janie Lacey Meeks. He was a retired carpenter. Surviving are widow of the home; daughters, Mrs. Bruce Standridge of Mount Airy; Mrs. Ralph Smith, Gainesville; Mrs. Herbert Craven of Athens; sons, Lester and Marion Meeks of Smyrna; sister,Carrie Brown and Frannie Hogan of Alto; Betty Chubert of Gastonia, N. C.; Bonnie Griffin of Ringgold; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were conducted Sunday at Yonah Congregational Holiness Church by the Revs. Ralph Smith and Lester Haynes. Burial was in Yonah Cemetery. McGahee-Griffin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Lloyd Eugene MEELER, 39, died July 15, 1974, in Banks
County, Homer, GA. He was born in Banks County, GA, the son of Swain Lee and Montie
Caudell Meeler. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. Survivors include
his parents; his wife, Mrs. Ruby Ward Meeler; sons, Richy and Bradley Meeler;
daughters, Susan and Sandra Meeler; brothers, Billy and James Meeler; sister,
Mrs. Floyd Evans; maternal grandfather, P. G. Caudell; paternal grandmother, Mrs.
Lee Meeler. Funeral services were conducted at Damascus Baptist Church by Revs.
Lester Palmer, Joe Brown, Warren Wilkerson and Frank Saylers. Interment was in
Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery. McGahee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Alice Lounelle "Nell" Mintz, 95, of Maysville, died Tuesday, February 8, 2005, at Oconee Medical Center, following a brief illness. She was born March 23, 1909, in Banks County, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Washington and Ida Lou Merck Ensley. She was a homemaker, a member of Grove Level Baptost Church, having joined the church in 1923, and was the oldest member of the church, and was a member of the Banks County Chapter od the AARP. Mrs. Mintz was predeceased by her husband, Howard M. Mintz, sisters, Annie Grace Ensley, Julia Addis Ensley and Ruby Pauline Purcell, brothers, Robert Ford Ensley, James Leatus Ensley and Glen Curtis Ensley, and a great-granddaughter, Donna Marie Glass. Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Floy Evelyn and Arthur Glore, Milledgeville, and Avis Maxine and Charles R. Jones, Maysville; a sister, Adelle Mize, Margate, Fla.; four grandchilden; 10 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; an dseveral nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held February 10, 2005, at Grove Level Baptist Church. Burial was in the Anderson-Mintz family cemetery.
Alma Lewallen MIZE, 92, died October 27, 2001 in Gastonia,
NC. She was a native of Banks County, GA, the daughter of the late Fletcher and
Althea Carter Lewallen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by
her husband, William R. Mize Sr. Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, William
R. Mize Jr., Jimmy and Bobbie Mize; daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Samuel
F. Nixon; grandchildren, Sam Nixon, Lorraine and Christopher Mize, Renee Mize
Kilburn and her husband, Ron; great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held
at Gaston Memorial Park with the Rev. Robert Baker officiating. Carothers Funeral
Home of Belmont was in charge of the arrangements.
Bobby James MORRIS, 48, of Banks County, Lula, GA,
died May 26, 2000 in Hall County, Gainesville, GA. Mr. Morris was born December
10, 1951, in Jackson County, GA, the son of Robert and Minnie Ruth Morris. Survivors,
in addition to his parents, include his wife, Doris Delean Meeler Morris; son,
Reggie Morris; daughter, Ashley Morris Bachelor; sister, Linda Wehunt. Funeral
services were held May 28, 2000, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church . Burial was in
the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Estella R. Morris, 73, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000. Mrs. Morris was a former resident of Banks County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton Thomas Morris. JOHN MORRIS Funeral services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, June 19, 1993, in Mount Carmel Baptist Church for John Turk Morris, 87, of Route 1, Maysville. The Rev. Ralph Smith will officiate. Internment will be in the church cemetery. Mr. Morris died Thursday, June 17, 1993, at his residence following a brief illness. Mr. Morris was born in Banks County, the son of William F. "Gab" and Lula Belle Griffin Morris. He was retired having been self-employed as a mechanic. He was a member of Hickory Flat United Methodist Church. Survivors include a sister-in-law Adell F. Morris of Maysville; two nephews, Robert Morris of Lula and Coleman Morris of Gainesville; a niece, Eunice Sheridan of Lula; and a great-niece, Rita Kirby of Jonesville, S. C.
