Banks County was formed in 1858
from parts of Habersham and Franklin Counties. It was named after Dr. Richard Banks a noted surgeon and physician
from that area. Banks County is bordered by Stephens, Madison, Jackson, Habersham, Hall and Franklin Counties.
Banks County comprises 234 square miles and as of 2010 it has a total population of 18,395.
